Hi y'all. Just thought I might clarify who is the real original author is of this beautiful hymn. Note: Over the years other people have added extra lines to the song.

I copied and pasted part of the legal documentation below for you from the original copyrights.

"They that wait upon the Lord, 1903. Arthur B. Whiting, 1861-1936. Music Division, Library of Congress. Call number: M2072.W"

Hope this is helpful to anyone who loves this song and wants to give credit to the original author. May we all be blessed and bring glory to God with our songs of praise.

ML

They That Wait
by: Roberta Martin

Chorus:
They that wait o the Lord shall renew their strength
They shall mount up o wings like eagles oh yes
They shall run and not get weary
They shall walk and not faint
Teach us Lord, teach us Lord how to wait
Master teach us how to wait.

Verses:
We are waiting blessed master for another pentecost
We have waited till our hearts have grown weary oh yes
Let the winds blow fresh from heaven let the promised power be given
Teach us Lord, teach us Lord how to wait
Master teach us how to wait.

Like Elijah on the mountain like Joshua at Jericho
We are calling we're trusting
We're waiting ever more
Like Job in his affliction let us wait till our change shall come
Teach us Lord, teach us Lord how to wait
Master teach us how to wait.

This is a very powerful song that all Christians need to stay strong in the Lord. I have known this song for many years and each time I hear it, it inspires me to learn how to wait. God does answer prayer. How long until He answers? That seems to be according to His perfect timing when all things are in order to make it happen. After all, He took six days for creation and it must have taken time to have everything to fall into place according to His will and perfect plan.

This is how I learned to sing it..I added this last verse cause I really love it...someone else came up with it..but the Lord is alive.and its good to do it the way the spirit moves on us..not by someone else but as Jesus leads I believe...

Teach Me Lord To Wait

Teach me Lord to wait
Down on my knees.
Til in your own good time
You answer my pleas
Teach me not to rely
On what others might do
But to wait in prayer
On an answer from you

(CHORUS)
They that wait upon the Lord
Shall renew their strength.
They shall mount up with wings like eagles.
They shall run and not be weary.
They shall walk and not faint.
Teach me Lord, Teach me Lord, to wait.

Teach me Lord to wait
While hearts are aflame.
Help me humble myself
As I call on Your name.
Keep my faith renewed
My eyes on the you
Help me be on this earth
What you'd have me to be

Repeat Chorus

There's a time and a season
For all things.
Jesus promised in his Word
To answer my pleas.
I'm crying to You, Lord
To grant sweet relief
Oh Jesus
Help thou my unbelief
