Another angelic version of this song “Going Home” is from a young Irish woman named Orla Fallon, on her album “”Abide With Me”. I’d heard the song before, but this rendition brought tears to my eyes, and I truly recommend it. God bless, all.

Hi,

Due to Covid and not being allowed to sing at funerals I am desperately trying to find a sung version of the hymn words by Michael L Forster,
Going home, moving on, through God's open door;
Hush, my soul, have no fear, Christ has gone before.
Parting hurts, love protests, pain is not denied;
Yet in Christ, life and hope span the great divide.
Going home, moving on, though God's open door;
Hush, my soul, have no fear, Christ has gone before.

No more guilt, no more fear, all the past is healed;
Broken dreams now restored, perfect grace revealed.
Christ has died, Christ is ris'n, Christ will come again;
Death destroyed, live restored, love alone shall reign.
Going home, moving on, through God's open door;
Hush, my soul, have no fear, Christ has gone before.

Singing the Faith 734.

Can anyone help with a recording? Thank you

I used this as the last song for my mom's funeral June 2016. The version sung by the Norwegian singer Sissel Kyrkjebø. It has such an emotional impact on me.

Going home, going home
I'm jus' going home
Quiet like, some still day
I'm jus' going home

It's not far, yes close by
Through an open door
Work all done, care laid by
Going to fear no more

Mother's there 'specting me
Father's waiting, too
Lots of folk gathered there
All the friends I knew

All the friends I knew

I'm going home

Nothing lost, all's gain
No more fret nor pain
No more stumbling on the way
No more longing for the day
Going to roam no more

Morning star lights the way
Restless dream all done
Shadows gone, break of day
Real life yes begun

There's no break, ain't no end
Jus' a livin' on
Wide awake with a smile
Going on and on

Going home, going home
I'm jus' going home
It's not far, yes close by
Through an open door
I'm jus' going home

Going home, going home

HI, does anyone know the words to the hymn:

On board a lonely western train not very long ago,
We reached the station on the train the sun it was sinking low,
A little girl got on while there who seemed to be alone
When the train man came to get her fare she asked in serious tone.
chorus;
Does this train go to Heaven is Jesus the conductor here
Does this train go to Heaven where i'll meet my Mother dear
I have started to reach her and together we will sweetly rest
When we reach the union station in the city of the blest.

My dad passed away with a major heart attack while singing this song in Church. I wasnt there, wish that I was, but they said that he looked up with a large smile on his face, lifted his hands on the last verse and then fell so softly on the floor and never drew another breath. My dad had only been saved a few months before that. Praise God he answered when God spoke to him,

I heard this song on CSPAN 2 days ago during the arrival of the bodies of the Americans who were killed in Libya. The brass band was beautiful.

Thanks Jim! I'm not sure if Theresa the "Guest" is still around after all these years, but I know a lot of folks must be looking for the same thing.

Here's a YouTube video to Sissel's rendition:

And the link to the album it's on at Amazon

Thanks so much for sharing! :)

To Steve & "Guest" I know this is an older post and you may have already found the answer, but the "Angelic Voice" you are referring to may belong to Sissel. She is a Norwegian Soprano/Mezzo Soprano with an unbelievable voice. I stumbled upon her and this song on Youtube. She may even have recorded it after 2005, I'm not sure. Check it out when you get a chance. Jim.
