My favorite song I know all the lyrics to it and I'm looking for the soundtrack and the author learned it when I was 5 years old

I was actually sung by the granddaughter of the Goodman family gospel group. her name was Tayna. The visited our church when i was 14 or 15. My aunt knew them well. I am 47 now and i sing this song all the time because it touched me so much when I heard Tayna sing it that Sunday evening.

Thanks to whomever posted the question, and to the commenters. Two of them commented as guests, one of them posted the names of the songs composers (I had never heard the original) and another remarked about Theresa in Roanoke, VA singing it. I heard her also, and LOVED the song and her beautiful voice. I well remember Damascus Inn, and am still in touch with a few of the members. If you see this post "guest" I hope you will respond again, maybe we can pm.

My mother learned this song at church camp. She sang it to us when we were babies. Now, 23 years old, I remember always asking "Mommy, sing dreams!" One day, I'll sing it to my own children. This was my lullaby.

I heard this song sung by a lovely young lady named Theresa with a beautiful alto voice; I do know all the lyrics but never knew where the song came from. I heard it at an interdenominational ministry in Roanoke, VA in the mid 1980's. The group has since disbanded, and I never did know Theresa well (not even her last name) so was never in touch. I appreciate these posts, but would like to know where this song came from and who wrote it.
