I have found the answer to my question. The song is called "I Just Thought I'd Tell You" written by Conrad Cook, copyright 1980.

Looking for this hymn, found it on a cassette of church hymns recently. Opens with a rousing piano section, chorus goes:

I just thought I'd tell you what The Lord has done for me
He gives His Holy Spirit and sets my captive free
So ??? for Glory, how happy I will be
