Sail away sail away
'Cross the wide open sea
Cast off from the shore evermore
You can be flying

Sail away sail away
Learn to fly learn to soar
Let loose of the shore evermore
You can be flying

Lord I want You to be my Captain
You can lead and I will follow
Anywhere through troubled water
'Til we reach the final harbor

I've often tried but I just can't fight it
You're so wise and I'm so short sighted
Casting off those lines of doubting Lord
And on your spirit's wings I'm flying

Sail away sail away
Learn to fly learn to soar
Let loose of the shore evermore
You can be flying
Flying flying

You are likely referring to Sail Away by Bob & Joy Cull from their album Windborne from 1979. Here is a link to the album online to listen to at home - https://flipsidemn.blogspot.com/2014/11 ... borne.html You may also listen to the song on Youtube here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioFwYAVWI4s

Hi ashleydillard

Just so you know in considering that clue,
I've unsuccessfully exhausted every avenue I have at my disposal

Not giving up

Okay, I've came into a little information that MIGHT or MIGHT NOT be more useful than the vague clues I offered before.
I think the artists name might be Candy Green. Her and her husband sang together. Tom and Candy Green. But I cant seem to find many songs by them on google. lol

There is an older hymn called "Sail Away Home", link to lyrics below:

I know my clues are so vague, I can hear the tune clear as a bell in my head but not one single other lyric.
I was probably about 10 when I recall the tape being played and I'm 35 now so around 1994. Other songs on the tape were "40 brave soldiers for Jesus" and then another song that said something like "we've been washed in the blood of Christ, born again children, the redeemed, sanctified and the raptured of heaved, thats all goes in to these pearly gates"

Ashley,

We'll keep searching with you.
It would help if we had any other clues.
We know it has the words sail away, a woman's beautiful singing voice and is reminiscent of elevator music.
What might help is knowing when this mix tape was compiled.
What other songs were include?
What genre?
No matter how vague, are there any other words you remember?

Nancy

Thank you so much for your reply and the two songs listed. Unfortunately neither of those two are the songs. I appreciate you taking the time to post them though. I haven't given up hope yet lol. I MUST locate this song.

Hi ashleydillard

First thought is Albertina Walker’s Sail Away
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6ay_CPwk_o
A little jazzier that elevator music but then there’s
Enya’s rendition of Orinoco Flow (Sail Away)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zkjQVh5KmQ
Although not “gospel” it is easy listening

So there are my first two attempts.
I hardly think either one will be what you’re looking for
but I posted the links for our listening enjoyment

As we keep searching …
Nancy
