Hi sandie_o

We’ve had this request posted a few times before. Here’s one link from our archives:

I found Exactly What I Need was attributed to Chambers/Rambo on the 1970 album Happiness Is The Downings but I couldn’t find it in either of their discographies

Anticipating what information SingerWhaley has. Is it Bud Chambers or Dottie Rambo or someone else ?

Lord Bless
Nancy

My family sang this in a revival in Winston Salem NC about 25-28 years ago. I may be able to help you with it.

I asked for sunshine, Lord, You sent rain...

I heard this song on a cassette that was a recording from revival meetings somewhere in the South. It was bought about twenty-five years ago.

I basically know the lyrics, but I would like to honor the author and any copyright, if necessary.

The lyrics (with maybe some mistakes) are as follows:
I asked for sunshine, Lord, You sent rain.
My feet sought level paths; You allowed the valleys.
In my strongest hour, my strength was vain;
Lord, You know the way I take, if it's my will to break;
You said You'd not forsake; I'll trust in Your Name.
(Chorus)
Storm clouds drove me to the valley and and valley brought me to my knees,
And there I found the Lily of the valley more precious than all the world to me.

The rain grew precious fruit that sunshine would sear;
The valley takes time and tears, so busy feet don't tread there;
And the way where the Lily blooms it purges a soul,
And at the valley's end, walking with Christ my Friend,
It's just around the bend, I'll come forth as gold.
(chorus)

The tape is a copy, so I do not know from where it was purchased.

I did a search for it and came up with only one hit. The man wrote it on his Twitter page, but I am loath to sign up just to find out where he knows the song from.

I surely would appreciate any help on this and thank you very much.
