Oh, I would just love to find the lyrics to this very old Hymn! The Hymn name is definitely, "Son of My Soul, My Savior Dear". And although I've heard the lyrics--just so incredibly beautiful!! -- I do not remember any of them specifically. Here's the scoop: Originally heard the hymn on a re-broadcast of the bible devotional program, "A Quiet Time", hosted by Al Salter, with male soloist and pipe organ accompianist. The program was originally broadcast worldwide, with strong support in the U.S. The approximate original broadcast dates of this show on radio, was somewhere between 1940-1960. This program featured hymns from out-of-print hymnals of the past, dating back approx.1500 A.D. - 1960 A.D. So far, my research has only uncovered the Hymn being noted in a Pittsburgh newspaper article from August 1889. I gathered from the article that the Hymn was being sung in churches at that time. Additionally, the hymn was sung by President Harrison, who attended that service.

SON OF MY SOUL, THOU SAVIOR DEAR

SON OF MY SOUL, THOU SAVIOR DEAR,
IT IS NOT NIGHT IF THOU BE NEAR;
OH, MAY NO EARTHBORN CLOUD ARISE
TO HIDE THEE FROM THY SERVANT'S EYES.

WHEN THE SOFT DEWS OF KINDLY SLEEP
MY WEARIED EYELIDS GENTLY STEEP,
BE MY LAST THOUGHT HOW SWEET TO REST
FOREVER ON MY SAVIOR'S BREAST.

ABIDE WITH ME FROM MORN TILL EVE;
FOR WITHOUT THEE I CANNOT LIVE;
ABIDE WITH ME WHEN NIGHT IS NIGH,
FOR WITHOUT THEE I DARE NOT DIE.

COME NEAR, AND BLESS US WHEN WE WAKE
ERE THROUGH THE WORLD OUR WAY WE TAKE;
TILL IN THE OCEAN OF THY LOVE
WE LOSE OURSELVES IN THEE ABOVE
