I've been researching this and I think Odell Cagle might have written it.
I don't know any more lyrics but keep checking back because there are
so many knowledgable folks in this forum who could expand on this
and either confirm or correct my assumption

Oh dear, I was digging and digging so I'm not sure where I linked it from.
I'd have to go back and try to trace my steps. I usually don't post anything
unless I can substantiate it but had the notion that it might ring a bell for
someone. Do you have any idea of who composed the song?
