This Is Why I Love Him
They mocked Him and they scorned Him
With thorns they crowned His head
Like a lamb onto the slaughter, my Jesus He was led
The soldiers cruel spear, was driven in His side
Oh what a sight for sinners, was Jesus crucified.
This is why I love Him, He gave His life for me
To purchase my salvation, they nailed Him to a tree
At last He cried it's finished, He bowed His head and died
Oh what a sight for sinners was Jesus crucified.
My heart was sad and weary, my garments stained with sin
I heard the Master calling, but would not let Him in
I barred the door against Him, and spurned His offered grace
I grieved the tender heart of grace, and from Him hid my face
Still wandering on in darkness, no ray of light had I
I sought for this world's pleasures, but found no lasting joy
Until one night the Saviour, in accents kind and true
Spoke sweetly to my sin sick soul, and said I'll pardon you.
This is why I love Him, because He saved my soul
And from my dark benighted heart, the burdens He did roll
And now I've satisfaction, and joy I can't explain
Since Jesus to my heart has come, again to rule and reign.
