Song title search - May be a pauper & dressed in rags

Post by juujumama » Fri May 31, 2019 5:39 pm

This is the song as I have my grandfather recorded singing, I've made out the lyrics best I can, but was hoping someone could help me identify the song...

May be a pauper & dressed in rags
and traveling this ol rocky road
but to see my Savior will be well worth it all
when we meet on the (beautiful) shore

When I put on the sparkling white
and my crown of diamonds and gold
I'll see all my loved ones
and friends I used to know

But I wanna see Him first (most) of all

When my ship comes in
-------- shore
and climb those golden stairs

I'll see all my loved ones
and friends I used to know
But I wanna see Him first of all

Thanks!! God Bless!

Hi juujumama,

What a blessing to have a recording of your grandfather singing this

The Speer Family released their rendition on several albums over the years I think first in 1958
Here is one of the recordings:

I WANT TO SEE JESUS FIRST OF ALL

Though I may be a pauper and may dress in rags
While traveling this rocky old road
But to see my Saviour will be well worth it all
When we meet in that city of woe

Chorus
When I'll put on my robe of sparkling white
And a crown of diamonds and gold
I'll meet all my loved ones and friends I've known
But I want to see Jesus first of all

When my ship comes to anchor on Jordan's great banks
And I step on God’s golden shore
I'll shake hands with the saints gone before
But I want to see Jesus first of all
