On The Cross of Calvary...

Hello!

This forum is a blessing. Before I even signed up, I already found an old Hymn I was looking for for years, since I was a child.

Thank you all for contributing to this forum.

I wanted to request a song, I could never find it anywhere. My father used to record old songs and hymns from Family Radio on cassette tape and play them all the time when I was a child.

He used to play a song I can't find anywhere:

"On the Cross of Calvary"
"Shine ever light, God's light for me"
"Jesus, thou art Compassion,"
"Died so that men might be free, be free."

And the end of the song goes:

"Why would you perish, he took your pain,"
-another line goes here, but i cannot remember it
"Mercy, loaned (owned?), redeemed and bought,"
"Come to him, just as you are."
"Come to him, just as you are."

Please forgive me if don't have the exact words straight, as I used to listen to this song about 25 years ago!

Thank you for any help you can provide!

On The Cross Of Calvary
Ives / Gerig

On the cross of Calvary,
Bearing the shame and agony,
Jesus paid sin's penalty,
That fallen man might be free.
But death and hell could not hold Him prey;
He rose triumphant - glorious day!
Soon He's coming back again
In power and glory to reign.

From the cross of Calvary
Shineth the Light of Life so free.
Sinner, "Look and live," saith He;
Pardon is offered to thee.
Why will you perish? He took your place -
Cancelled the debt for Adam's race.
Mercy's door is still ajar;
Come to Him just as you are.

Thank you Jesus. And whoever you are, wherever you are. Thank You my friend.

I had hope that God would allow me to one day find and hear this song again. But I didn't know where to begin to search. I couldn't find it because I remembered the song so differently with different lyrics!

You know, I posted my inquiry here, then left, thinking that no one might be able to help me. Its been almost a year, and then I tried googling again with similar words, and this old post came up with your answer, an answer God provided many months ago, I just didn't know it. God sent you, my friend.

May we meet in heaven my friend, so I can thank you face to face and properly. Until then, I offer you my sincere thanks. Thank you my friend.
