Hymn from my childhood - There's water, water of life

Post by Guest » Tue Oct 16, 2007 6:35 am

I vaguely rememeber a hym from when I was a child and would love to know the rest of the lyrics and what it is called. The chorus is "There's water, water of life, Jesus gives us the water of life. But that is all I can remember.

Hymn from my childhood - There's water, water of life

'Have you heard the raindrops '

Have you heard the raindrops drumming on the rooftops'?
Have vou heard the raindrops dripping on the ground?
Have you heard the raindrops splashing in the streams
And running to the rivers all around?
There's water, water of life, Jesus gives us the water of life;
There's water, water of life, Jesus gives us the water of life;

There's a busy workman digging in the desert,
Digging with a spade that flashes in the sun:
Soon there will be water rising in the wellshaft,
Spilling from the bucket as it comes.
There's water, water of life, Jesus gives us the water of life;
There's water, water of life, Jesus gives us the water of life;

Nobody can live who hasn't any water,
When the land is dry then nothing much grows;
Jesus gives us life if we drink the living water,
Sing it so that everybody knows.
There's water, water of life, Jesus gives us the water of life;
There's water, water of life, Jesus gives us the water of life;

Note: This is what I found doing a Google search. At a different site I found listed as the author of the song.......Christian Strover. Since I know nothing about the song I don't know if that is true. It seems to have been a children's song in all the different sites listing it in song books & etc. Hope this helps you in remembering. God Bless.

Thank you so much for your help, I have been struggling for ages to remember the words. This was my favourite assembly hymn when I was a child and it has brought back a lot of lovely memories. Thank you.

I can't seem to find any links to this song being played (on youtube or such)... I really want to hear it sang by a choir or a school assembly.
I had the most amazing teacher back in primary school who taught us this song, I don't remember much about her, but even though I was about 6, I was madly in love with her! She left our school after my year to go and teach in spain, and I've only seen her once since.
This song is one of the few things that brings back her face and the memories of such an amazing time in primary school.

Hello there, I loved this song so much as a child in school. I went to a Church of England school and we sang it plus many other faves in assembly.

Below is a link to the hymn being played on a pipe organ on You Tube.
