Lyrics to: O What a Savior

Post by malachi456 » Tue Jan 15, 2008 9:42 am

Once I was straying in sin's dark valley,
No hope withing could I see,
I searched Thru heaven and found a Savior,
To save a poor lost sould like me

Chorus

Oh what a Savior! Oh Hallelujah
His heart was broken on Calvary,
HIs hands we nail scared: His side was driven,
He gave his life blood for you and me

He left the Father, with all his riches,
WIth calmess sweet and serene,
Came down from heaven and gave his life blood
To make the vilest sinner clean.

Chorus

Death's chilly waters I'll soon be crossing,
His hands will lead me safe o're
I'll join the chorus in that great city,
And sing up there for ever more

Oh What A Savior!

Copyright 1948 By Marvin P. Dalton

Once I was straying in sin's dark valley
No hope within could I see

They searched through Heaven

And found a Savior

To save a poor lost soul like me

[CHORUS]

O what a Savior, O hallelujah

His heart was broken on Calvary

His hands were nail scarred

His side was riven

He gave His life-blood for even me

Death's chilly water I'll soon be crossing

His hand will lead me safe ore

I'll join the chorus in that great city

And sing up there for evermore

{Repeat Chorus, then,}

He gave his life-blood for even me

O what a Savior

this was the lyrics when Lancaster Baptist Church's choir sang it....
hope this is in

Once I was straying in sin's dark valley

No hope within could I see

Then came the Saviour,my blessed Saviour

To save a poor lost soul like me

[CHORUS]

O what a Saviour, O hallelujah !

His heart was broken on Calvary

His hands were nail scarred

His side was driven

He gave His life's blood for even me

Death's chilly water I'll soon be crossing

His precious hand will lead me safely home

and then I'll join that chorus in that great city

And i'll sing up there forever and ever more ...then chorus

[after chorus]
Jesus paid it all,all to him i owe..

His hands were nail scarred

His side was driven

He gave His life's blood {2x}

He bled and died for you and me

Yes for you and me!....

the songI am looking for has the words "when I could not come to where Jesus was He came to me. Oh what a Savior may not be the name for the song I am looking for. I know that about 10 to 15 years ago it was sung by the Atlanta Philharmonica Choir. I think Jodi Winters was the lead singer.

HE CAME TO ME
by Squire Parsons

The gulf that separated me from Christ, my Lord,
It was so vast the crossing I could never ford;
From where I was to His domain, it seemed so far;
I cried, "Dear Lord, I cannot come to where you are."

He came to me, O, He came to me.
When I could not come to where He was, He came to me.
That's why He died on Calvary;
When I could not come to where He was, He came to me.

He came to me when I was bound in chains of sin,
He came to me when I possessed no hope within;
He picked me up and He drew me gently to His side,
Where, today, in His sweet love I now abide.

He came to me, O, He came to me.
When I could not come to where He was, He came to me.
That's why He died on Calvary;
When I could not come to where He was, He came to me.

Yes, He came to me, O, He came to me.
When I could not come to where He was, He came to me.
That's why He died on Calvary;
When I could not come to where He was, He came to me.

When I could not come to where He was, He came to me.

It would seem to me that (although not the original lyrics) the words sung by Lancaster Baptist Choir are the most doctrinally sound. Noone "searched through Heaven" and found a Savior. He was part of God's divine plan from eternity past.... just sayin' :)

Some of you are getting one word wrong in the chorus. You are saying 'His side was driven".
The correct lyrics are, "His side was RIVEN".
Riven means to split with force or violence.

I had this song at one time, where it went I'll never know. But I do know that Buck Owens wrote it and sang it. It's a Bluegrass Gospel piece Dust on Mamas' Bible. I'm sure that there was more than just Buck Owens that sang it too, but I don't remember who. But if someone could get me the lyrics to it I would appreciate it.
