the wind in the willows

Hi I'm getting married in December this year and my bride to be as a favourite child hood hymn that has a line in the chorus " with the wind in the willows and the birds in the trees" I think the first line of the hymn starts with "As I was a walking" a bit vague I know - there are also lines about having bread and fishes and a jug of red wine.

Need help to find all the words and the music so that I can surprise her at our wedding

I wasn't able to find the music, but I thought by finding the lyrics and the artist that maybe you could go from there. I hope this is what you are looking for, if not I apologize. I wish you the best of luck with your wedding!

Blackmore S Night Wind In The Willows lyrics

As I went a walking
One morning in spring
I met with some travelers
On an old country lane
One was an old man
The second a maid
The third was a young boy who smiled as he said

"With the wind in the willows
The birds in the sky
There's a bright sun to warm us wherever we lie...
We have bread and fishes and a jug of red wine
To share on our journey with all of mankind".

So I asked them to tell me their name and their race
So I could remember each smile on their face
"Our name, they mean nothing...
They change throughout time
So come sit beside us and share in our wine"

So I sat down beside them
With flowers all around
We et from a mantle
Spread out on the ground
They told me of prophets
And peoples and kings
And all of the one god that knows everything
"We're traveling to Glaston
Over England's gren lanes
To hear of men's troubles
To hear of their pains
We travel the wide world
Over land and the sea
To tell all the people
How they can be free..."

So sadly I left them
On that old country lane
For I knew that I'd never see them again
One was an old man
The second a maid
The third was a young boy who smiled as he said...

Amazing,
I used to sing this when I taught at a school in Wellingborough. Now I'm head at a school in Norfolk. I have wanted to introduce this to my children and the wonders of the internet have provided it for me. Have you had any joy finding the music. I could sing to our Music coordinator, but my singing is not too great!

At work, we happened to get into one of those conversations about nursery rhymes and the ' do you remember '.

the conversation chnged to singing hymns at school and although they are a lot older than i am, i mentioned the first 2 lines of this hymn but no - one was able to recollect anything.

as i typed it in, i am so thankful to Brabdboo19 who has gone throught the trouble of finding the lyrics. it all came to me as i read down the line sand found myslef back a primary school crossed legged on the floor and arms folded, singing to the top of our voice - only 15 years ago!

I am of muslim faith and was one of the very few pupils at the catholic school that i went.... not many got this experience and i am glad to have had it.

regards,

we sang the 3rd verse slighty differently,
when he asks the travellers name they reply

My name is Joseph this is mary my wofe and this is young jesus who is a delight. instead of "Our name, they mean nothing...
They change throughout time
So come sit beside us and share in our wine"
