ONE DAY NEARER HOME

Post by CHRISTINE ANDERSON » Fri Jul 25, 2008 12:14 am

Hi Steve,

Am searching for all of the words including all in the chorus for this song ''ONE DAY NEARER HOME''. A precious elderly friend would be so grateful if I could find these words for her.

Bless you in your wonderful work,

ONE DAY NEARER HOME

I'm not Steve, but I think this is it:

O'ER THE HILL THE SUN HAS SET,
ANOTHER DAY AND WE'RE NOT HOME YET.
WE ARE ONE DAY NEARER HOME.
THEN OLD TWILIGHT FADES AWAY.
SOON THE FALL OF THE DARKENING SHAKES.
WE ARE ONE DAY NEARER HOME.
CHORUS
WE ARE ONE DAY NEARER HOME
CARES OF LIFE WILL SOON BE GONE
I CAN SEE OUR FATHER'S THRONE
WE ARE ONE DAY NEARER HOME.
II
IN THE DISTANCE I CAN SEE
THE LIGHTS OF HOME FOR YOU AND ME
WE ARE ONE DAY NEARER HOME
COME TOO FAR TO TURN BACK NOW
SOON I'M GONNA LAY THESE BURDENS DOWN
WE ARE ONE DAY NEARER HOME.

just one day nearer home, As shadows of the night descend.
Just one day less to roam as fading twilight colors blend.
Beneath that starry dome I'll rest beside my Guide and Friend,
With each day's tramping, nightly camping, one day nearer Home.

Here is the correct version of this song including the second verse.
We are one day nearer home. Written by Joe Hatfield.

Verse 1
O'er the hills the sun has set,
Another day but we're not home yet,
We are one day nearer home.
The gentle twilight fades away,
Soon will fall the darkening shade,
We are one day nearer

Chorus
We are one day nearer home,
One day nearer home,
Cares of life will soon be gone.
Oh I can see our Father's Throne,
We are one day nearer home.

Verse 2
When hard trials comes our way,
Angel's voices seem to say,
Child you are one day nearer home.
You have come a long, long way,
but you've come this far by faith,
You are one day nearer home.

Chorus 3
In the distance I can see, the lights of Home for you and me,
You are one day nearer home.
you've come to far to turn back now,
soon you'll lay these burdens down,
You are one day nearer home.

I thought of this little song we used to sing at our Sunday school camp in Kilmacombe Scotland. We sang it every night before going to bed. That was in 1958 / 1959. Church of the Nazerene sunday school camp from Uddingston. A man played his concerteenah. We slept in bell tents , sometimes with snow on the ground. It was late and cold. A warm drink inside us and this quiet song resonating in our ears as we headed to our sleeping bags. I can see it now as clear as if it was yesterday. I couldn't remember all the words, so googled them hoping to find them ... and I did tonight. A very lovely warm feeling ... a very pleasant memory relived tonight. I live in Australia now, nearly 70, still young. Tonight, I'm going to bed singing this song softly to myself.
Thank you ... Les J

My mother is requesting the tune to the Loes arrangement of “ One day nearer home”. She has pneumonia and can’t. I found her the words, she didn’t remember the camping line. But she can’t sing and I don’t know the tune to sing it with her

Hi Elizabethz

I don't know if this is true to the Loes arrangement.
But Gerdus Grobler requested an artist and album recording
This is Dottie Rambo's rendition

and here is The Looper Trio's version

Also of note: Alice Carey is the author
