IN COUNTRY TOWN OR CITY

Post by Shola » Mon Aug 18, 2008 12:32 am

I heard the song 29 years ago in Africa. I think the first line is "In country town or city, some people live--- "but I am not sure. The chorus of every verse contained the words:
They grumble on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
Grumble on Thursday too
Grumble on Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Grumble all the week through.

I have this song on LP, but can't catch all the words. This is the best I can get. Maybe someone else will be able to fill them in.

Caleb

In country town or city,
Some people can be found,
Who spend their life in grumbling,
???????
???? they always grumble
No matter what they say
They spend their life in grumbling
And they grumble night and day

CHORUS
Oh they grumble on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
Grumble on Thursday too
Grumble on Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Grumble all the whole week through.

They grumble in the city
They grumble on the farm
They grumble at their neighbours; they think it is no harm.
They grumble at their husbands,
They grumble at their wives.
They grumble at their children,
And their grumbling never dies.

CHORUS

They grumble when it's raining
They grumble when it's dry
And when the crops are failing
They grumble and they sigh.
They grumble at low prices
They grumble when they're high
They grumble all the year round
And they grumble till they die.

They grumble at the preacher
They grumble at his prayer
They grumble at his preaching
They grumble everywhere
They grumble at God's people
And say ??????
????????
They have only time to pray

They stay away from meeting
Because it's hot or cold
Or else it looks like raining
A headache or a cold
And when the offering's taken
They're sure to have a sigh
And say they're oh so sorry
Always money is the cry.

CHORUS

If you don't quit your grumbling
And stop it now and here.
You'll never get to heaven
No grumblers enter there.
Repent and be converted
Be saved from all your sins
You know that grumbling Christians
????

CHORUS

Immense thanks to Caleb. You got most of the words. I can fill some of the missing blanks. Some friends should be able to help me fill others. Once I have the entire lyrics, I will post them. Meamwhile, kindly tell me the artists and record label that produced the LP. Remain blessed. Shola

the LP is Happiness is.... by the Agape players. Doesn't have a record label, they probably produced their own. I would be delighted to get all the words when you have them.

God bless

In country town or city,
Some people can be found,
Who spend their life in grumbling,
At everything around
O yes they they always grumble
No matter what they say
They spend their lives in grumbling
And they grumble night and day

CHORUS
Oh they grumble on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
Grumble on Thursday too
Grumble on Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Grumble all the whole week through.
They grumble in the city
They grumble on the farm
They grumble at their neighbours; they think it is no harm.
They grumble at their husbands,
They grumble at their wives.
They grumble at their children,
And their grumbling never dies.

They grumble when it's raining
They grumble when it's dry
And when the crops are failing
They grumble and they sigh.
They grumble at low prices
They grumble when they're high
They grumble all the year round
And they grumble till they die.

They grumble at the preacher
They grumble at his prayer
They grumble at his preaching
They grumble everywhere
They grumble at God's people
And say its all display
But Holy folks don't grumble
They have only time to pray

They stay away from meeting
Because it's hot or cold
Or else it looks like raining
A headache or a cold
And when the offering's taken
They're sure to pout or sigh
And say they're oh so sorry
Always money is the cry.

I heard this growing up and the words were changed to reflect them accepting Christ and "moving to thanksgiving street, where joy was complete" ... anyone else heard that version?

Both pieces--the one quoted and the one the previous post mentions--were written by Thoro Harris.

I heard this song first when I was only 10 years old, then 7 years later. I have been looking for the sheet music score since then, now I'm 32, I'm yet to find it, I don't know where else to search. Can anyone please help. My email address is [email protected]

God bless you all as you help.
