The Dream was written by Bill Castle and sung by Russell Moore who on one you Tube video said it was written by Bill Castle.

Definitely written by Bill Castle, along with many other bluegrass and gospel songs. Have known Bill for over 50 years.

While Bill Castle wrote the song, IIIrd Tyme Out is the ones who recorded the song originally. IIIrd Tyme Out does it in the key of E. The chord progression is 1-4-1-2-5-1-4-1-4-1-5. It repeats the chord progression on chorus the same. Put the capo on the second fret and play out of the D position (aka. start with the D chord) and that is the key of E.

1=D
2=E
3=F
4=G
5=A
6=B
7=D

Here it is with the chords above where the changes are in the key of D. If you put the capo on the 2nd fret and play these exact chords it is the same as the key of E (the key it was written in).
