I am looking for the lyrics and guitar chords or music to the song by
Ira F. Stanphill called A Crown of Thorns, Some of the lyrics go as follows

Theree was no crown for him of silver of of gold
There was no diadem for him to hold
Some of the chorus:
A rugged cross became his throne
His kingdom was in hears alone

A Crown of Thorns
Ira Stanphill ©1952 New Spring

There was no crown for Him of silver or of gold
There was no diadem for Him to hold.
But blood adorned His brow,
And proud its stain He bore,
And sinners gave to Him the crown He wore.

CHORUS
A rugged cross became His throne
His kingdom was in hearts alone
He wrote His love in crimson red
And wore the thorns upon His head.

He did not reign upon a throne of ivory
But died upon the cross of Calvary.
For sinners there He counted all He owned but loss
And He surveyed His kingdom from a cross.

No purple robe He wore,
His bleeding wounds to hide
But stripes upon His back He wore with pride.
And from the wounds there flowed a crimson,
cleansing stream
That was a cover for the soul unclean

Now, this is the words that I found:

The crown He wore was not of gold or silver
although He was proclaimed the King of the Jews
In it was no emerals or diamonds
for thorns was the only settings used
why a king arrayed in such a manner
and why a ruler wore such a crown
he wasn't forced by any man to wear it but willfully he laid his glory down.

chorus
Oh the crown of thorns was a crown of pain and death
that meant salvation for all men for he traded it for a crown of victory
and he'll never wear a crown of thorns again

now satan never was an easy loser
though he wants us all to wear that crown
but do't forget Jesus wore it for us and the power of sin has been forever bound

chorus

I hope this is the one you are looking for..God Bless

Do you know who wrote the second set of lyrics where the chorus refrains: Oh the crown of thorns was a crown of pain and death....?
I have been looking for this song for so long.
I would love to hear it again, but alas, I don't live in the US anymore.
The melody and some of the words would go around in my head, but I couldn't quite remember it until I saw this post.

And I can hear the chorus of voices singing it.
I would be so grateful if you could tell me who performed it and also who wrote it.

I heard this song for the first time in a little Missionary Baptist church that I visited yesterday. I absolutely loved it, so I've been trying to find it. I found that Jimmy Swaggart performed this song. You should be able to find some chords from his rendition of it. I'm going to try to do this song in Celebrate Recovery in a couple weeks. You can listen to the Jimmy Swaggart version and try pulling chords from it on Grooveshark ( http://grooveshark.com/#!/s/A+Crown+Of+ ... i2nt?src=5 )

I'll be adapting that version to piano and guitar for our worship team in a couple days, and I'll try to post it back here when I'm done. If it's not up in a few by March 22, 2013, poke me at [email protected] and remind me... I'm a bit of a procrastinator.
