How Great It is to Serve a Living God

Post by Shirley Nanney » Mon Aug 03, 2009 3:22 am

I am organist at a Methodist Church in Aurora, NC. We have a small choir and I have a hard time finding sheet music. I listen to a radio station which plays gospel songs and I hear these songs, love them, and I am trying to find sheet music for any of them. Please help me. I have listed one of the songs that I am looking for.

Thanks,

Shirley Nanney

This is my first time at the site so you might have to guide me a little.

HOW GREAT IT IS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. I listened as a man cried out to his gods of earth and stone,
And it broke my heart to see all the tears that he shed alone.
And I knew that it was hopeless and he would not receive
An answer from the gods he served that cannot hear or see.
CHORUS:

How great it is to serve a living God
Who knows each breath I take and every step I've trod.
How great it is to serve a God that's real.
Whe sees my every tear and He knows just how I feel.

2. So I fell down on my knees to pray like so many times before,
And I only ask my God to hear my prayer, Lord, just once more.
And it seemed like the heaven just opened up and I could hear Him say,
"Yes, my child, I can hear you, what do you need today?"

CHORUS:

How Great It Is To Serve A Living God

Verse: 1
I listened there as a man cried out to his God's of wood and stone,
and it broke my heart to see the tears he shed alone,
but I know that it was hopeless, that he would not receive,
an answer from the God's he serves that cannot hear nor see.

Chorus:
How great it is to serve a living God,
who sees each breath I take and every step I trod,
how great it is to serve a God that's real,
who sees my every tear, and he knows just how I feel.

Verse: 2
So I feel down on my knees and prayed like so many times before,
and I boldly ask my God to hear my prayer once more,
it seemed that the heaven's just opened up and I could hear him say,
yes my child I hear you, what do you need today.

I'm not sure if there is available sheet music for this song, but the first set of lyrics is the correct version. I have a recording of it done by The Jenkins Family out of Hanging Rock, Ohio.

I wasn't sure if the lyrics that I had was the right ones or not and I hoped that someone would say something about the two that were posted. Thank you so very much JennaRosa1 for letting everyone know which ones were right along with the added information. Now I can make the corrections to mine. May God Bless you.

I have heard a 3rd verse-
As I stood up from the altar of prayer,
I felt the change in me, For I was lost in deep, dark sin,
But now praise God, I can see
So I lifted my hands up toward the sky and I began to pray,
Oh, Thank you God for saving me, I'll serve you every day.
