Descant lyrics for Silent Night

Post by Guest » Sun Dec 18, 2011 9:04 pm

Neath the silent stars the town is sleeping
Shephereds on the hill their watching, keeping
Their flocks are safe within the fold
Secure from danger warm or cold
Silent,silent night
Holy,holy night
Sleep in peace, sleep in heavenly peace
In Peace....

I would love a copy too please. I also learnt this in primary school - but I live in New Zealand! So it travelled around the world. :)

Merry Christmas to all.

Kate, if you're still watching, could you email it to me also?
sstigleman@bellsouth.net

I'm looking for it for my mother's memorial service. She was a church organist for many years, and she died just before Christmas.

Thanks!

These three scores at SheetMusicPlus have descant parts, but tough to say whether it's the same descant as listed above. I'd give them a call to ask.

It was written by Anita Smisek and can be found at ALLIANCE PUBLICATIONS, INC. Part #: AP-1496, for $1.35. To purchase, email Anita at: apimusic@yousq.net.

I sang the descant in 8th grade and plan on doing it for as part of our school's Chistmas Concert. In fact, I am going to sing the descant with the entire school singing "Silent Night". I've never sung at the school's concert before, but we thought it would be fun to do it this way.

I also sang this during my third grade,
Neath the silent stars the town is sleeping
shepherds on the hills are watching keeping
Their flocks are safe within the folds
secured from dander wet and cold
silent, silent night
holy, holy night
sleep in peace
sleep in heavenly,
sleep in peace

I learned the descant in 4th grade, in the early sixties. I have been singing for years at the Christmas Eve service at the Allwood Community Church in Clifton, NJ, where it is now a tradition. Words, similar to those previously given:

Beneath the silent stars a town is sleeping
Flocks are safely in the fold
Secure from danger, want or cold
Silent, silent night
Holy, holy night
Sleep in peace
Sleep in heavenly peace
In peace
