Hi Jill, here are the lyrics you requested. Rita
Lord of All Hopefulness
lyrics: Jan Struther, 1901-1953

Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy,
Whose trust, ever childlike, no cares can destroy,
Be there at our waking, and give us, we pray,
Your bliss in our hearts, Lord, at the break of the day.

Lord of all eagerness, Lord of all faith,
Whose strong hands were skilled at the plane and the lathe,
Be there at our labors, and give us, we pray,
Your strength in our hearts, Lord at the noon of the day.

Lord of all kindliness, Lord of all grace,
Your hands swift to welcome, your arms to embrace,
Be there at our homing, and give us, we pray,
Your love in our hearts, Lord, at the eve of the day.

Lord of all gentleness, Lord of all calm,
Whose voice is contentment, whose presence is balm,
Be there at our sleeping, and give us, we pray,
Your peace in our hearts, Lord, at the end of the day.

It is amazing. I am using it this week for the funeral of a dear lady who knew this peace and hope.

This hymn has beewn in my had for two days after a burial service for my parents. The meaning really touched me, especially because my father was a woodworker. The second verse made me envision his joy at making something in his workshop; the third verse brought me back to the many times he was so good with people and eager to find common ground to put them at ease.

When I was working with our minister to plan the funerals of both my mother and father, she suggested this hymn. I had grown up in the church, but had never heard it before. The words are so meaningful, and the tune while almost childlike in its simplicity, is a melody from the heart. It often brings tears to my eyes when I hear this song. I now have framed the lyrics and have them on the wall in my room to read and be reminded of God's hope, joy, and peace.

I think this is one of the first hymns that said "Your" instead of "Thy" when speaking to God.

Yes,
a hugely moving hymn; which we all can relate to, be it a Sunday Church, or on other ocassions. Whatever you're doing children and others it instantly brings involvement to a congregation;

Thank you so much for talent Jan and God bless
