lyrics to old baptist hymn - Precious Memories

Post by carolla » Mon Aug 21, 2006 3:37 pm

Precious Memories
Unseen angels
sent from somewhere to my soul
How they linger
ever near me
and the sacred past unfolds

Precious Memories, how they linger
how they every flood my soul
In the stillness of the midnight
Precious sacred scenes unfold.

Precious mother, loving father
fly across the crowded years (?)
and old home scene of my child hood
in fond memory appear.

This may not be exact, I'm trying to do it from memory. I hope this is enough for now.
God bless and keep singing praise to the King.

I found your post on namethathymn.com. I've known the lyrics to this song for years, so here you go.

There's a lighthouse on the hillside
That overlooks the sea
When I'm tossed it sends out a light
That I might see
And the light that shines in darkness now
Will safely lead me o'er
If it wasn't for the lighthouse
My ship would be no more

(Narrative)
It seems that everybody about us says
Tear that old lighthouse down
The big ships just don't pass this way anymore
So there's no use in standing around
Then my mind goes back to that one dark, stormy night
When just in time, I saw the light
Yes, it was the light form that old lighthouse
That stands up there on the hill

And I thank God for the lighthouse
I owe my life to Him
Jesus is the Lighthouse
And from the rocks of sin
He has shown a light around me
That I might clearly see
If it wasn't for the lighthouse
Tell me where would this ship be?

I thank God for the lighthouse
I owe my life to Him
Jesus is the Lighthouse
And from the rocks of sin
He has shown a light around me
That I might clearly see
If it wasn't for the lighthouse
Tell me where would this ship be?

The Heritage Singers have a beautiful recording of this song at their website. Go to www.heritagesingers.com/Silver.html and scroll down to volume six for the album Jesus Is the Lighthouse (of course).

Precious Memories

Precious memories, unseen angels
Sent from somewhere to my soul
How they linger, ever near me
And the sacred scenes unfold.

Precious memories, how they linger
How they ever flood my soul
In the stillness of the midnight
Precious, sacred scenes unfold.

Precious father, loving mother
Fly across the lonely years
And old home scenes of my childhood
In fond memory appear.

In the stillness of the midnight
Echoes from the past I hear
Old-time singing, gladness bringing
From that lovely land somewhere.

I remember mother praying
Father, too, on bended knee
Sun is sinking, shadows falling
But their prayers still follow me.

As I travel on life's pathway
Know not what the years may hold
As I ponder, hope grows fonder
Precious memories flood my soul.

I am despartely trying to find the words to the old hymn time song entitled: Where Can I Go But To The Lord. The begining words are ; LIVING BELOW IN THIS OLD SINFUL WORLD, HARDLY A COMFORT CAN AFFORD, NEEDING A FRIEND TO HELP ME IN THE END, WHERE CAN I GO BUT TO THE LORD. the chorus is: WHERE CAN I GO, OH WHERE CAN I Go,SEEKING A REFUGE FOR MY SOUL, NEEDING A FRIEND TO HELP ME IN THE END, WHERE CAN I GO BUT TO THE LORD. I pray someone can help me with the other words .I think Tennesee Earnie Ford sung one rendition of it back in the early 1950s.

WHERE COULD I GO
words & music by JB Coates
copyright 1940 Stamps-Baxter Music
(a division of Brentwood-Baxter Music Publishing,Inc)

Verse 1
Living below in this old sinful word,
Hardly a comfort can afford;
Striving alone to face temptations sore,
Where could I go but to the Lord?

Chorus
Where could I go, O where could I go,
Seeking a refuge for my soul?
Needing a friend to save me in the end,
Where could I go but to the Lord?

Verse 2
Neighbors are kind, I love them eve'ry one,
We get along in sweet accord;
But when my soul needs manna from above,
Where could I go but to the Lord?

Chorus

Verse 3
Life here is grand with friends I love so dear;
Comfort I get from God's own word;
Yet when I face the chilling hand of death,
Where could I go but to the Lord?

Chorus
