I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good CD with this song on it. It was sung at my daughter's baptism and I love it. I haven't been able to find anything other than something from St. Olaf, which is no longer being produced.

I'm singing this song at my niece's baptism this weekend and I just love it! I just hope I don't cry while I'm singing though. It's a beautiful song and I'm proud to be singing it!

I teach this contemporary hymn during my "Hymns for All Seasons" workshop at Epworth By The Sea in St. Simons GA each March. I originally found it in the Episcopal supplement, and it has now found its way into several mainline denominations and non-denominational churches as well. Sure speaks volumes about Our Lord remaining with us from birth to Everlasting Life!

Baptismal hymn - A Borning Song

Post by prazsong » Sun Jan 10, 2010 7:04 pm

I have been involved in music most of my life, since I was about 6 ... I'm now 53. I majored in music in college, and have sung in church choirs galore, community choruses, women's vocal ensembles, I do lots of solo work, perform for all kinds of funerals, baptisms, weddings, military ceremonies, etc., and have even recorded TWO CDs of my own ..... and I had NEVER heard of this hymn until a few days ago! That is simply amazing to me, that in all these years, after having worshipped in a Baptist, a Presbytrian and now a long-time Methodist church, that I've never known this song. I'd love to make a soundtrack, to use it at future events for which I'll sing. Anyone know where the accompaniment track is available, or at least a recording so I can hear the melody and can record it on my own. I play by ear, so sheet music is not necessary ... but I don't even know how the tune goes. I love the words, and I'm sure I could use it for all kinds of events. Thank you.

To prazsong:
I don't know if an accompaniment track is available...I would search on iTunes. When I did a google search, a link on YouTube came up but that site is blocked at my work so I can't check that out for you. The text and music is by John Ylvisaker and here is a link for a copy of the sheet music:

Jay Beech's Baytone music has this as an mp3 download or on a cd. This song always brings tears to my eyes.
