And He Said These Three Are One

Post by cansing2 » Fri Jun 04, 2010 7:21 pm

Hello,
I'll try again. This was a Hymn that I sang back in the seventies, for either my Confirmation or Holy Communion.

He said I am the Father
He said I am the Son
He said I am the Spirit
And He said these Three are One.

Wow! I wish I could give you what you are looking for, but I would like to ask that if you do every find this particular song that you post it here. It sounds like something my dad and myself would like to take to our church. Good luck and God Bless!

And He Said These Three Are One

I remember the beginning of the hymn well. The words started out this way:

"He said God is my Father,
He said I am the Son,
He said we send the Spirit,
And He said these three are one."

Not sure about the rest, but I remember these lines: "comfort the mourners," "answer evil with good," "we should give those who ask us," "the last shall be first."

The melody was as simple and repetitive as you can get. Each phrase started with the same "He said," and the verses used the same tune as the refrain.

I remember that first verse as quoted and a part of another:
"He said bless those who curse you,
he said answer evil with good."

Maybe these are related - guessing:

He said love one another,

He said eat of my body,
He said drink of my blood,

It would be nice to find the full song again.

Saw this reference to the song: https://hymnary.org/hymn/WCS1976/d66
Which says is was published in 1976 (sounds right) by Josephine Comeau under the title "He said he would comfort the mourners".
