Thanks everyone for sending in so many verses. I know the melody and spent time singing all the verses - what a blessing it was to me. Annette from Linden, AB.

Ho reapers of the whitened harvest
Of feeble faint and few
Come wait upon the blessed master
Our strength he will renew

Cho. for they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength,
they shall mount up with wings, they shall mount up with wings as eagles.
they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint,
they shall run and not be weary they shall walk and not faint
they shall run and not be weary shall walk and not faint.

Rejoice for he is with us always
Lo! even to the end
Walk up, take courage and go forward
All needed grace he'll send

Hard fighting soldiers

I am a hard fighting soldier, on the battlefield
I am a hard fighting soldier, on the battlefield
I am a hard fighting soldier, on the battlefield
I keep on bringin souls to Jesus
By the service that I give

I've got a helmet on my head, in my hand a sword and shield
I've got a helmet on my head, in my hand a sword and shield
I've got a helmet on my head, in my hand a sword and shield
I keep on bringin souls to Jesus
By the service that I give

You gotta walk right, talk right, sing right, pray right, on the battlefield
You gotta walk right, talk right, sing right, pray right, on the battlefield
You gotta walk right, talk right, sing right, pray right, on the battlefield
I keep on bringin souls to Jesus
By the service that I give

I am a hard fighting soldier, on the battlefield
I am a hard fighting soldier, on the battlefield
I am a hard fighting soldier, on the battlefield
I keep on bringin souls to Jesus
I keep bringin souls to Jesus
We keep bringin souls to Jesus
By the service that we give

Hymn search - They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength

Here are the 2nd and 3rd verses to this song.

We are waiting blessed Master for another Pentecost
We have waited til our hearts have grown weary, oh yes
Let the winds flow fresh from Heaven, Let the promise be given
Teach us Lord, teach us Lord, how to wait, Master teach us how to wait.

Like Elijah on the mountain, like Joshua at Jericho
We are waiting, we are watching, we are praying for evermore
Like Job in his affliction, let us wait until our change shall come
Teach us Lord, teach us Lord, how to wait, Master teach us how to wait.

Hymn search - They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength

Post by PaulWesley » Tue Dec 06, 2011 8:21 am

Hi, my name is Paul-Wesley Bowen. I met Stuart Hamblen who wrote the song "They That Wait Upon the Lord". I see above a mixture of his song and verses and a few from others.
To hear him doing just one verse, and to hear how the song sounded as he sung it, go to the youtube url http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GH11gkKqfWQ
or listen to the Gaither Homecoming doing it at the url
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTP7Jxc_Kpg
At the youtube url http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgnAl8WwquY
you will see both verses and the chorus, just not sung, and played a little "lively" to his original rendition.
Stuart was an old time genuine cowboy who lived in Hollywood and his story of salvation is a real testimony to God's reaching in and pulling someone into His kingdom. Others of his songs were "It Is No Secret", and "This Old House", which became a top hit on the public charts. The song was taken from a real life experience, and the writing of it was the beginning of a miraculous journey of faith where he learned to trust God in everything.
