Descant lyrics for Silent Night

Post by Guest » Thu Nov 25, 2010 5:43 pm

I am almost pretty sure about the first verse. I just sang it in our christmas party 2009. I hope someone can complete the 2nd verse for me. The lines already mentioned seem to lack a second line.
Here's verse 1:

'Neath the silent stars a town is sleeping
Shepherds in the hills are watching keeping
Their flocks are safe within the fold
Secure from danger want or cold
Silent, Silent night
Holy, holy night
Sleep in peace
Sleep in heavenly peace
In peace.

I'm looking for a descant that includes the words :
"To a tiny place that's called Bethlehem town,
Christ the blessed Savior from heaven came down.
Glorious were the tidings the angels did sing,
??????? to heaven's own King"
I had the sheet music at one time but lost it. There were two verses of the
descant and I think it was in the 1980's that I first heard it.

I sang this one in 5th & 6th grade in 1965 & 6...

Neath the silent stars a town is sleeping
flocks are safe within the hold
secure from danger, want or cold
silent, silent night
holy, holy night
sleep in peace
sleep in heavenly peace
in peace

I have been looking for this for years! Does anyone have the music? My sister used to sing this in the 60's and the info is gone. Thanks.

We sang it in elementary school like this, but I'm sure it's the same melody...

Through the silent night, the town is sleeping,
The sheep are safe within the fold,
They're free from danger fear and cold,
Silent...silent night
Holy..holy night
Sleep in peace, si-lent, ho-ly night,
Sleep in peace.

I remember loving that descant and in fact that's why I'm looking for it LOL.

Finally! I'd lost the words several years ago and now I've found them.

Thanks.

I am so glad I found this-- I think that the one that I remember is a bit different- the descant or second part went (from what I can remember)
Silent night, the (cows?) are sleeping
Shepherds .... something something...
Pay homage (or sing praises) to the Lord on high

Silent, silent night
Holy, holy night
Sleep in heavenly, sleep in heavenly peace, in peace.

Ring any bells?

Our church choir used to sing it this way:

'Neath the silent stars
A child is sleeping
flocks are safe within their fold
secure from danger, wound or cold
silent, silent night
holy, holy night
sleep in peace
sleep in heavenly peace
in peace

Guest post for Dec 5 of this year. You have posted the first verse exactly as my sister and remember it in an elementary school choir. We were in an elementary school in Long Beach, Calif. Have never heard Silent Night sung this way since, unless we sing it ourselves from memory. Would love to find the music myself. Now that I know someone else is aware of it, maybe I'll call the school and speak to someone in their music department.
