silver and gold - story in Acts

Post by baldwidow » Tue Jul 19, 2011 12:47 pm

There are at least two songs. I have been able to find the children's song which begins with "Peter and John went to pray..." Recently, I heard another version by Wendy Bagwell & the Sunliters. It begins with something about the "lame man lay the the temple's beautifuls gates, asking alms of the people who went in to pray."

Silver and Gold Have I None
by D. E. Gilbreath

1 Oft a lame man was at the temple's beautiful gates, (bright gates)
Asking alms of people who entered that great estate, (estate)
Who when he saw Peter and John would soon go inside, (inside)
Asked them, too, for alms that the wealth of this world can provide. (provide)

chorus

Of silver and gold have I none, Said Peter to the man that day, (that day)
Daily he had been laid at the gate, When others went inside to pray (to pray)
But such as I have give I thee, And gave Him a lift with his talk, (his talk)
In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. (rise up and walk)

2Peter reached and lifted the man up by the right hand, (right hand)
He, by faith in Jesus the world's great savior, did stand, (did stand)
And when they went into the temple, so says God's word, (true word)
He went with them, walking and leaping, and praising the Lord. (our Lord)

3 Many souls made lame by old Satan's pitfalls in life,(this life)
Are outside God's wonderful kingdom, lost in the strife, (sin's strife)
If they, too, were given by faith a kind helping hand, (love's hand)
Would perhaps rise up and go walking t'ward Canaan's fair land. (fair land)
