The song "Victory in Jesus" is mostly correct as referenced above but a key portion has been perverted and deceivingly widely republished on the Internet and in many song book versions. This of course is no fault of those who helpfully have found and referenced the correct song as the answer to the original posted question. But I desire us to know more about why it has been widely perverted over time from the original.
The original 1939 song by Eugene Bartlett, in Stanza #2 towards the end goes "then I cried dear Jesus come and heal my broken spirit, I then obeyed his blessed commands and gained the victory".
Now here is the perverted replacement of the last part that IS NOT in the original song: "And then I cried, "Dear Jesus, Come and heal my broken spirit,"
"And somehow Jesus came and bro't To me the victory"
Is that replacement Biblical? Of course not!
Search diligently online for the true, original song version and you shall find it. Much like The Gospel, the full measure of Truth requires diligent study to overcome the lies of this evil world, which is now truly ran by Satan ever since Christ Jesus ascended to Heaven. That is God's Truth, Absolute TRUTH.
So you can easily see the song perverter clumsily wanted to omit the necessary requirement to obey Jesus' commands in that verse of the song. But the original song (as I first quoted) has it right as far as God's doctrine given us in the Holy Bible goes. People need to understand obedience is required to find true final salvation. Read and study the NASB, ESV and ASV translations that better translate the applicable verse John 3:26, proper translations that better utilize separate original Divine inspired Scripture's Greek words pertaining to "believe" and "obey/reject" (Stong's #4100 and #544 ) as originally Scripturally used in verse John 3:26.
Clearly God is telling us that obedience is key to having actual final salvation and the perversion of that requirement, removing it from the song is another lie of Satan inserted to mislead those who might seek true eternal life. "Prove all things" friends as commanded by God: 1 Thesselonions 5:21
Here is the NASB translation key verse:
John 3:36. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
Many other diligent to original translations also match this one above.
Here now is the KJV version of the verse:
John 3:36. He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
From this issue alone we can now better understand that while the KJV translation is excellent, it is still not perfect when considering this verse. We each need to understand that only the original Scriptures are to be our final authority of God's actual Word of Divine direction given unto us. The original Greek word for "believe" is not used twice in John 3:36 as the KJV gives, rather separate words with separate meanings are given. As you can now see, the King James version unfortunately used the same word "believes" for two separate Greek words (believes vs. disobey/reject) that were actually used in the original written Greek Scriptures of that verse. That's why a better translation using separate words in that verse is more correct, thus better actually reflecting God's direction and will for our understanding of that verse.
All verses of New Testament Scripture matter, and are only singularly true, meaning they have only one intended meaning from God. He does not allow His Word to have different meanings for different people.
