A 70's song - Restore to me the joy of your salvation

Post by Christsfreeservant » Thu Jan 29, 2009 2:39 pm

Does anyone know this song that came out in the 70's, I believe. It is based off of Psalm 51, I believe and it goes something like this:

"Restore to me the joy of your salvation
Restore to me the joy of this new day
Give me back the love that I once had for you
And never, never let me go away (or astray)."

A 70's song

Hope this is it
CREATE IN ME A CLEAN HEART (PSALM 51)

1. Have mercy, Lord, in Your unfailing love.
Wash me of sin, of my impurity.
Wash me, my Lord, that I be white as snow,
and hide Your face from my iniquity.

I know I've sinned!
It's there right before me.
How rightly, Lord, that I am judged by Thee.

But in Your grace, I ask You for Your pardon:
from my sin, set me free.

2. Create in me a clean heart, O God!
Renew in me a spirit right with You.
Instill in me a wisdom to be true.
Forgive me, Lord, for all the wrongs I do.

Lord, cast me not away from Thy presence.
Lord, take Your Holy Spirit not from me.
Restore to me the joy of Thy salvation,
and a strength drawn from Thee.

A 70's song

I sing the song with my choir. It's called 'Restore the joy', and is supposed to be written by Harlan Moore. I'm looking for an original for about 20 years, and the fact that it's a song from the '70s, is very helpful. If you need the full lyrics, choir score, or probably a recording, let me know.

Restore the joy of thy salvation, restore the joy to me, and if I ever doubt that you're really the answer, restore my faith in you..I can recall the time I fell upon my bended knee, Asking the Lord to come down and deliver me..........

It is found in "Sing 'n' Celebrate" songbook, Song number 9 titled "Restore". Pub: (1971) by Word Inc, Waco, TX
I have scanned it, but can't work out how to post it on here.

Chorus - Restore the joy of thy salvation
Restore the joy to me
And if I ever doubt that you're really the answer,
Restore my faith in Thee.

V1 - I can recall the times
I fell upon my bended knee
Asking the Lord to come down
and deliver me.
I could never seem to find
how to keep the peace of mind
Now at last I fin'ly see,
I need revival here in me.

V2 - You know as well as I,
times come - you're messed up inside.
No matter how hard you try,
your font of life is goin' dry.
Your spiritual life becomes a bore,
it isn't like it was before.
David reached the point where he could see,
he needed revival like you and me.
