Hi AKMA
Nancy here, still checking in after all these years
and still, after an extensive search today no new leads.
Did you ever chase that lead from four years ago
with the New Haven community gospel radio station?

Re: I'd Rather Suffer the Pais and Afflictions
Dear Nancy,
I have communicated with the host of Gospel Express himself, and he does not recall the hymn in question. He acknowledged that he sought out less well-known selections, and as a result has a harder time remembering everything that he played.
Still searching…

Hi Akma,
Nice to hear from you again.
We can cross that lead off our list. Eh?
Looking forward to next year's post
By then maybe we'll have success

Re: I'd Rather Suffer the Pains and Afflictions
Good morning, world. I’m just checking this post to bump it onto the front page again.
Now, living holy in the world means suffering —
But by me that's all right
I'd rather suffer the pains and afflictions
Than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season
I'd rather suffer the pains and afflictions of the righteous!
If my mother don't want to go — I'm going all the way
If my brother don't want to go — I'm going all the way
If my sister don't want to go — I'm going all the way
If my friends don't want to go — I'm going all the way…

Re: I'd Rather Suffer the Pais and Afflictions
Hi AKMA
Since you first started searching, there is now technology that identifies and transcribes songs.
Apparently you can even hum what you know and the song can be identified.
Some songs are easily identifiable but I'm finding older Gospel songs are challenging.
I am having difficulty with finding what works because I’m not all that tech savvy
I've been researching apps. What I found so far was Shazam, SoundHound, and Musixmatch
or Google offers "To use the new feature on a mobile device, open the latest version of the Google app or find the Google Search widget.
Tap on the mic icon and say “what’s this song?” or click the “Search a song” button. Then start humming
Let us know if this helps in your search

Re: I'd Rather Suffer the Pais and Afflictions
Just checking in. I'm preaching a historic (since 1708!) endowed sermon this Sunday — the annual Schism Sermon at Abingdon Baptist Church — and I'd love to be able to identify the source of this hymn. I've tried everything; no joy so far.
Thanks for your attention —
I've decided I'm gonna live holy
I've decided I'm gonna live right
I've counted the cost, made up my mind
I'm gonna live for Christ
Now living holy in this world means suffering
But that's all, that's all right
'Cause I'd rather suffer
I'd rather suffer the pains and afflictions
Than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season
I'd rather suffer the pains and afflictions of the righteous
