Hi Jeanette,
The original authors were Kris Kristofferson and Marijohn Wilkins. The song was first made popular by Lena Martell in 1979.

Correction: One Day At A Time was originally made popular by Thrasher Brothers in 1974, hitting no 1 in the Southern Gospel Charts, then becoming a crossover hit!

Many thanks to ALL of you who wrote the words out to this wonderful and beautiful AND true song. During the last four months I have been going through what seems like "hell" and just the other day this song came to my mind, so I want to thank all of you for printing off the words. I'm going to type them out and put them on my fridge as a daily reminder that we should all........live just for the day!
