As an orphan boy in childhood the law arrested me
I knew that I was guilty and must face the penalty
As I faced the dreadful charges I stood without a friend
A guilty worthless orphan that no lawyer would defend
Now by the law of justice my case could not be won
The judge asked for a lawyer, I heard them call His son
His son was kind and tender, a tear fell from His eye
He whispered "Are you guilty?" "Yes Sir" was my reply
He then confessed my judgement for mercy He did plea
The speechless judge sat waiting to hear Him patiently
"Your Honor" he said gently "Have mercy on this one"
"I take him as my brother, that means he'll be Your son"
So earnestly he pleaded for mercy and for grace
"Oh please forgive him Father, else I must take his place"
The court was moved to action as He took my penalty
Dismissing all the charges, they had to set me free
The judge had great compassion, then said in gentle tone
"This lad has been adopted into the Royal Home
