Thank you. I'm also remembering (I have a lot of years to bring into that mix!) that at one time I believe I had that in an old Singspiration book. Now to dig through all my bins of music...I have printed the one from the site you gave me, so at least I have that. I am creating a mini book of my early elementary years, and that song is a very vivid part of my memory of first grade. Thanks again.

we used to sing other verses to that -

He came unto His own;
His own received Him not
But to those who did believe
the power did receive
to be the sons of God
by trusting in His name
I'm so glad that Jesus came

Another verse is:
Since God so love the world
Then we must love Him too
Enough to go and tell the people bound for hell
Each Christian weak or brave must know that Jesus saves
Sinners for eternity:

The Brian Free edition of
VERSE 1
Forever they were banished from their paradise,
God passed through Eden's garden gates alone;
But his compassion wrote the pages unfolding through the ages,
Of a love that remains the greatest ever known.
CHORUS
For God so loved that He gaaave His only Son,
To suffer agony on a hill called Calvary;
Heaven's mercy reached my heart and bore my pain,
Hope was born throught scared blood for God so loved.
VERSE 2
Shouts of praise were heard thoughout Jersalem
As Jesus humbly passed through Zion's gates;
Then the gloom of Calv'ry sorrows dashed hopes of bright tomorrows,
When the heart of the loving Father turned away.
CHORUS
Bridge
Well, it seems that all was over when they placed Him in the grave;
But death's victory march was ended on that Resurrection Day!
CHORUS
TAG
Hope was born through scared blood for God so loved.

just sends me right to heaven. The words the meaning just will melt your heart if you are a Christian.

I have this song, words by Frances Townsend, music by Alfred B. Smith in “Hymntime Piano Book: Book Three,” compiled by Fred Bock, published and arranged by Singspiration, 1961.

For God so loved the world
He gave his only Son
To die on Calvary
From sin to set me free
Someday he’s coming back
What glory that will be
Wonderful his love to me

I went online to see if there were more verses.
