Hi! I ran across your question today after searching up these lyrics I was given. My grandmother recently gave me an old scrap paper, given to her mother by their pastor in Ohio somewhere back in the 1950s era, and he had written down a song. I didn't know if he wrote it himself, or if this was a widely known hymn (I couldn't find any other references to this either). Anyway, here is exactly what was written on the notebook paper, nothing of mine is added:

"My Shepherd Is God"

I have a good Shepherd
Who looks after me
In daylight or darkness
He's close by to see
All dangers are taken
From the path that I trod
I love my Shepherd, My Shepherd is God.

(chorus)
In grief He's my comfort
In trouble my stay
In darkness my light
For He'll show me the way
He holds to my hand
If in pitfalls I trod
I love my Shepherd, my Shepherd is God.

There are many lost sheep
Who have strayed from the fold
Here seeking for pleasure
Or diamonds and gold
Oh may they come back
And return to His keep
For He is their Shepherd
And they are His sheep.

In time of temptation
He's there by my side
In the darkest of hours
He's always my guide
He tenderly watches o'er me
By night and by day
I love my Shepherd
Close by Him I'll stay.

Thank you for posting the lyrics to this song! I just love it. My great uncle and his quartet used to sing it years ago when I was a teen and young adult, and I really miss it. After some digging, I found out that this song was written by Don Reno and recorded by Reno and Smiley in 1954. Here is the link where I found this information. https://secondhandsongs.com/work/202994/all

God Bless!
