I want to see Jesus cause He died for me

Post by DonnaB » Wed Feb 13, 2008 2:13 am

My memory of the lyrics are a bit faulty, as I haven't heard this song in about 35 years.

The first verse goes something like this, although this is the part that I may have really really wrong:

If I never walk upon those streets of purest gold
If I never sit beside the crystal sea
If I never see that mansion prepared to be my final home
I want to see Jesus cause He died for me.

Chorus (which I think is probably reasonably accurate):

To look into the eyes of mercy that watched over me when I strayed
I want to see those nail-scarred hands that gently brushed my tears away
I'll thank Him for each drop of blood He shed at Calvary
I want to see Jesus cause he died for me.

The second verse goes something like this though there is one section I cannot remember (I hope this helps):

If I don't see those walls of jasper those twelve gates of pearly white,
If I don't sit beneath the tree of life.

This is a song I heard when I was very young. A local group sang it.
I think these are the words:

I Want to See Jesus Cause He Died For Me

If I never walk upon those streets of purest gold,
If I never sit beside that crystal sea,
If I never see that mansion prepared to be my final home,
I want to see Jesus cause He died for me.

CHORUS

To look into those eyes of mercy that watched o'er me when even I strayed,
I want to feel those nail-scarred hands that gently brushed my tears away.
To thank Him for each drop of blood that flowed from Calvary,
I want to see Jesus cause He died for me.

If I don't see those walls of japser those twelve gates of pearly white,
If I don't sit beneath the tree of life.
If I'm permitted but to enter I'll bow beneath those nail-scarred feet,
I want to see Jesus cause He died for me.

I am told that a man named Billy Smith from up around Horn Lake,Ms. is
the one that possible wrote this song. He and his sons had a group
many years ago,I think called the Spiritual Echoes.

The Chordsmen Quartet sang this song in 1975 featuring thier tenor singer Greg Harrison.. The Chordsmen was headed up by Bobby Raynor out of Fayetteville, N.C. Great Group.. Michael Sykes also came out this group a few years later..
