The people who wrote this song is the “Jo Peterson Team” they toured around Australia about 1983 and sang this and their other songs and we bought their album. The reason I found this post is my grand daughter was singing this and I tried to find this online to play to her but couldn’t. We have the album and when I work out how to upload the album I can post the link in here, but it’s definitely the Jo Peterson team. A brother, sister and her partner I’m pretty sure.

This is my take on this song:

I'm Going to Heaven, I'm Going There When I Die - 1524
Key of G (maybe E)

[G] They tell me of a city, that's [D] just beyond the sky
They say the population, will [G] never, never die.
There we'll walk forever, upon the streets of [C] gold
And [G] in that land up yonder, we'll [D] never more grow [G] old.

Chorus
[G] I'm going to Heaven; I'm [D] going there when I die
I'm going to Heaven, in the [G] sweet, sweet by and by
I have placed my order, for a mansion and a [C] crown
And [G] in that book up yonder, my [D] name is written [G] down

[G] There will be no taxes, no [D] rent we'll have to pay
This deed is for your mansion, we'll [G] hear the angels say
No washing and no mending, no clothes that look [C] threadbare.
We'll [G] have a snow-white garment of [D] righteousness to [G] wear

[G] There never will be sorrow, up [D] in that happy clime
We'll eat the hidden manna, drink [G] grape juice from the vine
There never will be doctors, with a pill bag in his [C] hand
For [G] there will be no sickness, up [D] in that happy [G] land

Repeat Chorus

[G] We'll see the old time Baptist, who [D] trod the holy way
Some Nazarenes and Pilgrims, some [G] Methodists they say
But best of all my brother, our Savior we will [C] see
And [G] what a grand homecoming that [D] glorious day will [G] be.

And [G] what a [A] grand home com [C] ing that [G] glorious [D] day will [G] be.
