I am looking for the rest of this song, which I know as The Shadow of the Cross."

You can light but one small candle in a room so dark and drear.
It will drive away your troubles. It will drive away your fear.
..........................????.?
All your sins will be forgiven in the shadow of the cross.

Chorus:
Oh yes, the closer you stand to the light of The Lord,
the taller your shadow will be.
And, friend, the taller your shadow, the lighter your load,
and the brighter your path eternally.

This is all I can remember. Does anyone know the rest?

Could this be it,,,I directed a cantata at a church in Mesquite ,Texas in the 70s/80s, We did an upbeat version of a song "Shadow of The Cross", I still have a copy of it as well as the tape. The intro starts w/firm piano and drum for the first 4/6 measures, lyrics are " There's something bout the wood of the manger, that reminds me of the cross that he bore" etc. If that's it let me know. I plan to sing it in a few weeks for the church I now attend.

[email protected] this is your song

"There's something bout the wood of the manger, that reminds me of the cross that he bore"

Been looking for this also. It was from a cantata. IIRC it was in Eb. Started with a sort of a blues chant "Shadow of the cross... shadow of the cross.....

Something bout the wood of the manger, that reminds me of the cross he would bear, cradled above the ground on those wooden legs so brown, I somehow see a cross in the air.

Chorus
It seems at times I see the shadow of a rugged tree, falling across the baby where he lay...

There's something in the wood of the manger
That reminds me of the cross He would bear
Cradled above the ground, those wooden legs so brown
It seems I see a cross in the air

While shepherds watched their flocks in the moonlight
The angels sang of God's announcement grand
And there's something in the way they passed the great men of their day
To tell those who kept the sacrificial lambs.

So I think I understand the manger birthplace
I think I understand the reason why;
He was born as he was, to fulfill the Father's cause
To be the Lamb of God who was to die.

After the line "It seems at times I see the shadow of a rugged tree, falling across the baby where he lay... " it continues "The one who gives the light / must face the cold and friendless night / in the shadow, in the shadow of the cross". This song goes at least back to 1986, because I remember taping it (and if I can ever find it, I may upload it to Youtube)
