Can anyone help with this song please. It is of the three trees on the hill and the wishes they made were these..... one wished to be a bed fit for a king, and he found himself fashioned into a manger, one wished to be a galleon on the sea - and he became a boat for a fisherman from Gallilee, the third wished to be remembered long after he was gone - and he became the cross on which Jesus was crucified. I can't find it anywhere, and can't remember who sings it. I have most of the melody in my head, but it would be great to hear it again somewhere. Thought I might find it on Grooveshark but no luck. Thank you. Ozziebee

i know the Freemans...all of their songs are awesome! They live just down the hill from me. Check out their website for when they might play in your area. I don't think Randy Travis ever recorded the song either...

Awesome...thanks for posting. It' s really wonderful that your dad and uncle's work are such a blessing. If you have any stories about your dad and uncle and "Three Rugged Crosses", we'd love to hear them :)

My dad and uncle Ricky and Marty Funderburk wrote the song "Three Rugged Crosses", the Freemans sing it! It's a great song!

Does Randy sing that one.
I know he sings "Three wooden crosses on the right side of the highway" because I sang it at church .

C Am F
A farmer and a teacher, a hooker and a preacher, ridin' on a
C G
midnight bus, bound for Mexico.
C Am
One was headed for vacation, one for higher education, and
F G C
two of them were searchin' for lost souls.
F G F
That driver never, ever saw the stopsign, and eighteen-
G
wheelers can't stop on a dime.

Chorus:
C Am
There are three wooden crosses on the right side of the highway.
F C G
Why there's not four of them heaven only knows.
C Am
I guess it's not what you take when you leave this world behind you.
F G C
It's what you leave behind you when you go.

That farmer left a harvest, a home and eighty acres, a faith and love for
growin' things in his young son's heart.
And that teacher left her wisdom in the minds of lots of children and did
her best to give'm all a better start.
And that preacher whispered, "Can't you see the promised land?"as he laid
his blood-stained Bible in that hooker's hand.

Chorus:

Am F C
G
That's a story that our preacher told last Sunday, as he held that
blood-stained Bible up for all

of us to see. He said,
C Am F
"Bless the farmer and the teacher and the preacher
C G
who gave this Bible to my mama, who read it to me."

There are three wooden crosses on the right side of the highway.
Why there's not four of them, now I guess we know.
It's not what you take when you leave this world behind you.
It's what you leave behind you when you go.

C Am C
There are three wooden crosses on the right side of the highway.
