'Longing for Jesus" Key: G 4/4
W & M by Ione McPherson (1937)

This is the song I thought of in 1997 when I began transcribing words to songs I know. This I also learned from my Dad. I have found that singing it is more of a blessing to me than simply playing the notes as they were written.
I sing it in G, but I am a bass (baritone) and I like to sing where it's more comfortable for me. It might sound better in Ab.

Longing For Jesus

I'm longing for that glorious day when Jesus Christ shall come.
I long to see His blessed face.
When all the saints throughout the ages shall be gathered home.
The ones who've trusted in His Grace.
1.
I'm longing for Jesus to come back, I long for Jesus Christ my King.
To come and take me to my home beyond the sky, up there
where angels shout and sing.
2.
Sometimes the road seems rough and hard the pathway seems so long,
but He is always by my side. He whispers loving words to me and tells me
to be strong, that He will always lead and guide.
3.
Oh what a glorious time 'twill be as through the air I go
to meet the One who died for me.
All sicknesses and sorrows here will all be left behind.
'Tis then my joy will be complete

I can see him through the twilight
At the closing of earth's day
I could almost hear him whisper
As to him I knelt to pray.
"Only wait a little longer
Alter not in faith nor sigh
I will meet you in the morning
When his glory paints the sky."

With my eye of faith upon him
Though the shadows thicken fast
But the darkness cannot hide him.
Till the morning break at last.
E'en in times of deepest anguish
When with bitter tears I pray
I can hear his gentle whisper
"I am near you all the way."

God bless
Caleb
