My eyes beheld a ghostly scene
As Death came on the stage,
He swaggered with a boastful step,
And flew into a rage!
His voice was filled cruelty
His eyes were filled with hate
He spoke, "You are my prisoner,
Therefore death shall be your fate!"

Then Jesus came and set my spirit free,
Then Jesus came from Heaven's throne
To die on Calvary,
My prison door to open wide
And life has never been the same!
All hope was gone, then Jesus came,

My soul was held for ransom,
A prisoner of sin,
And though I longed for freedom,
My shackles held me in!
The door was bolted tightly,
I heard the Jailer say,
"Forever dwell in darkness,
I have thrown the key away, the key away!"
