I understand the words to be "came a man of countenance so fair" instead of "beauty so rare". In my research, I find Ike Davis recorded this in 1964. Jimmy Swaggart in 1978. I found this:

It states that Martin Montgomery aka Martin Wetter from the LightCrust Doughboys composed the song. It also states that Ike Davis's album is arranged and composed by Marvin Montgomery, but I can't find any information verifying that M.Montgomery wrote this song beyond this above website.
