We'll still be looking for that information.
Oft times the inspiration behind the hymn
is as or more inspirational than the hymn

Songinmyheart,

Thanks for sharing the link to the recording; it is a lovely rendition - reminds me of my Sunday School days. I do have a copy of the hymn with the musical notation and 2nd verse as you also shared. But I am still looking for information about the history/origin of the hymn.

Thanks.

Hi dpkeiper,

Still hunting for additional information or clues

For everyone to hear this lovely hymn, It is found here:
http://www.accn-toronto.org/media/mp3/C ... Sorrow.mp3

2nd verse
Weep my spirit, Weep in sorrow,
that He suffer for our good,
That He suffer for our sinning
for us shedding here His blood
Dying Savior; wounded, broken
Here doth thirst the Lamb in grief
and they give Him of the hyssop
Ere He yielded up His life

Find here the sheet music:

I am interested in finding out more information about a short hymn I learned as a child. I actually have the lyrics and the old hymnal I learned it from, but I would like to know more about it: the writer, composer, where and when it was written, etc. In the hymn book, which is titled "The Apostolic Christian Hymnal" (which we called the "Junior" hymnal - because it was used in Sunday School and was different from the "Senior" hymnal - the "Zion's Harp" used in regular church services), the hymn is #65 and titled "Weep, My Spirit, Weep In Sorrow". There are only 2 verses included in the hymn book, and I am wondering if the original version may have had more. The words of the first verse are:

Weep, my spirit, weep in sorrow,
Seeing Jesus on the cross!
Darkness falleth in the noon-day,
Earth doth tremble at our loss!
There behold Him in His anguish,
Our beloved Jesus Christ,
Who doth suffer for our sinning,
Who in death is sacrificed.

I have searched the internet for several phrases of the lyrics, but have not been able to find a trace of it anywhere. Any clues would be helpful. Thanks.
