How well I remember Sister Hattie Lassiter singing this song many years ago at Calvary Baptist Church in Haverstraw, New York. Miss Hattie, as we all called her, was a truly great gospel singer. She is still alive, now 90 years old and suffering from dementia.
There are more verses to this song. A few lines I barely remember are:
His enemies how they did hate him,
One by one they sought to slay him,
But Jesus rose above them all just like a dove.
When he died, the sun stopped shining.
His loved ones around him crying,
Till at last he cried, "It's finished,"
The job was done.
Does anyone know the verses?
