This is an old hymn that my family sang. They were Mennonites from the Ukraine who immigrated to the US, landing in Kansas and later in LA. The attended the Azusa Street revivals and became Pentecostal. Being 4th generation, I didn’t grow up singing this, but my father did. I am a pianist and would love to get the sheet music so that I could introduce this to my church.
Lyrics (that I do have):
Who Will Answer For Me
(1)
Who will answer for me when life’s battle is past
When I stand at the bar of the judgment at last
When before me the Judge of all nations I see
In that terrible hour, who will answer for me?
(Chorus)
When the Judge shall at last call my name from the roll
And shall ask who will answer for this guilty soul?
Then my Savior will turn with compassion towards me
And His sweet voice will say, I will answer for thee.
(2)
Justice there will I see, with the scale in her hand
And I know I shall quake as upon them I stand
Weighed and found wanting, as no doubt I shall be
In my weakness and fear, who will answer for me?
(3)
Savior help me to walk close to Thee day by day
When I hear Thy command, may I trust and obey
While I live may I ever to Thee faithful be
And, at last, hear Thee say, I will answer for thee.
Does anyone have the music to this? I have the tune in my head, but would like to verify that I have it right. Boy, I sure do love the old hymns!
