"Sing On" from the Sacred Union

by michaelanatal » Sun Apr 13, 2025 1:26 am

Hello all! I've got another one, this time a shapenote/gospel song seemingly called "Sing On". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KMftijqBOc.

As heard in the recording, this song is on page 83 of a tunebook/hymnal called "Sacred Union". I have had no luck finding evidence of this book online. Does it ring any bells for anyone else?

I have transcribed the lyrics below to aid in the search.

Sing On (unidentified song)

If the Lord put music in your heart to sing,
Sing on, sing on
Raise your voice to heaven, let its praises ring
Sing on, sing on

Sing on, sing on
Unto Christ the Lord and King
If the Lord put music in your heart to sing,
Sing on, sing on

Help to cheer the weary as you go along
Sing on, sing on
Make the burden lighter with a cheerful song
Sing on, sing on

Sing on, sing on
Unto Christ the Lord and King
If the Lord put music in your heart to sing,
Sing on, sing on

If your heart's a-glowin' in His happy praise,
Sing on, sing on
Fill the land with gladness by the songs you raise
Sing on, sing on

Sing on, sing on
Unto Christ the Lord and King
If the Lord put music in your heart to sing,
Sing on, sing on
