It is actually a song by the Soul Stirrers. Johnny Taylor was singing with them at the time.

did you ever get the answer to this?

it sounds like "The Love of God" ... I think it's by Johnny Taylor. I remember some of it to go like this

The love of God guides me along my way
The love of God will never let me stray
The love of God will always be there for,
The love of God I know is everywhere.....

If this sounds right, I can get the lyrics for you. My dad knows the whole song and he can tell me for certain if it's Johnny Taylor or not
