I'm not sure about a version with a man stabbing another, but msburbrry posted two versions of the song on a thread back in 2009. You can find them here:

My pastor is looking for a song he used to sing years ago but forgets the words.
The name is The Old Country Church but there are so many versions.
He remembers something about a man stabbing another somewhere in the song.
