I was also looking for this song and found it on ITUNES. The Funeral by Hank Williams, but this is not the one I remember as I believe the background tune was steel away. Probably by Pat Boon, but I could not find that version on ITUNES.

The Pat Boone version is the one I heard at 18 years old. I played it over and over again, and it's a good thing. Our only daughter ran in front of a moving car
at 10 years of age in 1984, in the presence of our 3 sons, her Dad and I.It was because of this song and the faith in our Lord that carried us through those sad,
difficult times. But it was always in the back of my mind that our children aren't
really our own, they belong to our God and they are just in our keeping for a little r7v3jwhile. So hold your babies and grandbabies tight and be ready to 'steal away home' because we never know when we will be called...

"The Funeral is the name of this song by Hank williams Sr. The music is "Steal Away". Tennesse Ernie Ford did the best version of this song.
