find a hymn

Post by barb » Mon May 23, 2005 3:04 am

Hi-
the hymn ( or it might be considered a gospel song) I would like researched has the phrase in the chorus " Over me, over me. Let the mighty billows roll over me". I heard it sung in my grandmother's church in the early 60's- she attended an Advent Christian church in New Hampshire. I am sorry - that's all I remember, but I would like to know what the rest of the song said.

Hi Barb,

I'd been getting confident, after just having found about 10 "lost" lyrics in a row for people who'd asked me through e-mail. But I'm afraid I'm a bit stumped here

The closest I found was the hymn "Boundless Salvation" by William Booth. One of the stanzas goes:

My tempers are fitful, my passions are strong,
They bind my poor soul and they force me to wrong;
Beneath thy blest billows deliverance I see,
O come, mighty ocean, O come, mighty ocean,
O come, mighty ocean, and roll over me!

I'm pretty sure this is not what you're looking for, but I thought I'd mention it just in case. If this isn't the one, I'll continue to try researching

In the meantime, can anyone else reading this on the Web help?

Thanks, and God bless!

Hi-
that is not it, but thanks for looking. I know the song had to have been written probably late 1800's or early 1900's. The hymnal I remember was probably from the late 40's to early 50's. If I think of anything else I will post it.

The Unseen Hand:

Verse 1
There is an unseen had to me,
That leads through wave I cannot see
While going through this world of woe,
This hand still leads me as I go

CHORUS:
I'm trusting to, the unseen hand,
That guides me through this weary land
When some sweet day I'll reach that strand,
Still guided by the unseen hand

Verse 2
This hand has led through shadows drear
And while it leads I have no fear
I know t'will lead, me to that home
Where sin nor sorrow ere can come

Verse 3
I long to see, my Saviors face
And sing the story saved by grace
And there upon that golden strand
Ill praise him for his guiding hand

I also have the actual sheet music if you are interested in it.
