Could this be the Barabbas you were looking for? God Bless!!

Barabbas

My name they call Barabbas and for murder they hold me
my sentence has been rendered, today I'll die nailed to a tree
I denyed that I was guilty tho I knew I was the man
how I dread those rusty nails, they'll soon drive in my hands
they'll soon drive in my hands.

as I lay here in my prison, I'm living my last days
the soldiers will be coming to carry me away
my soul is lost forever, in the flames down below
I knew the law but I didn't keep it
and i'm not prepared to go... I'm not prepared to go

the soldiers now are coming, i hear the shuffle of their feet
the angry mob is yelling, nail that trader to the tree
but they marched on by my prison, then the street grew very quiet
I just don't understand it but they left me here alive
yes they left me here alive

then the prison doors swung open, I saw a roman soldiers face
he said fear not barabbas, there was a man just died in your place
my heart begin to tremble , I said describe this man to me
he said his name was jesus, he was a jew from galilee, he was a jew
from Galilee

2x
he said on the 3 day... he'll arise and live again
the tomb will no longer hold him
God's plan can now began, well it was not just for old barabbas
Jesus put his life on the line
soon he'll return for his faithful. he's taking us with him this time

we're going with him this time.... are you going with us... this time

This is the version that we sing. Do you know who the author is? We just have the words that we got from a brother in church that used to sing it several years ago. God Bless

I'm looking for a song called "Barabbas" but it's not these on this page.... It goes like this: The crowd out side was angry and I could hear them roar, Barabbas! Barabbas! as the Jailer unlocked my door... I made my way through the city gates in the early light I could see.... Instead of two crosses on that hill... I could see that there were 3..... Does any one know the whole song?

Story behind the song:
http://bluegrasstoday.com/the-story-beh ... -barabbas/
Barabbas
© Eldred Hill (Lonesome Note Music - BMI)

I lived two thousand years ago
A thief, a rebel was I
My name is Barabbas
And I was condemned to die

On Friday morning the jailer came
In the early light I could see
As he dragged two thieves away he said
Barabbas you can go free

The crowd outside was angry
And I could hear them roar
Barabbas, Barabbas as the jailer unlocked my door

I made my way through the city gates
Out to Mt. Calvary
Instead of two crosses on that hill
I could see that there were three

Who's hanging there upon my cross
The one they built for me
Who's dying there in the middle
That Barabbas might free

A purple robe a crown of thorns
A face forgiving and kind
Nailed to the cross on Calvary
The cross that should have been mine

I lived two thousand years ago
A sinner friend, like you
My name is Barabbas
But your's is Barabbas too

I am looking for the sheet music to a song called Barabbas Song. Some of the lyrics are

I am Barabbas my life won't be long
I fought Roman Soldiers I'm condemned for my wrong
Today is the day I bear the cross made for me
here comes the jailer he's turning the key

I am the one for whom the cross was made...

I am also pleased to say that one of my musical heros, Marty Raybon has recorded it for his This That and the Other Vol. 2 CD. Check out our web site LocustRidge.org for more information on the group and my songs. God Bless--Russell Allen
Russell,

Great to meet you.
I currently live in NYC (my hometown) but spent several years in Northern VA where I still remain close with my spiritual home at St. Peter's of Purcellville. I am currently managing the YouTube Channel for St. Peter's and just this morning published a Devotional by a local bluegrass group who performed your "I Am Barabbas" song.

You can watch it here https://youtu.be/038eWINKeD4
(FYI, Andrew the group's lead singer modified your lyrics slightly)

I loved it so much that I had to pull out my guitar and figure out the chords. I did so and then shared the transcription on Ulitmate-Guitar.com tonight (using your exact lyrics).

Hopefully it will be published in the next day or so. I credited you as songwriter. I also added a link to a Locust Ridge performance of the song on YouTube.

What an amazing song, Brother. You've inspired this New Yorker with your wise words.
God Bless You and Happy Easter!
Christ is RISEN!
